In a fully decarbonized Europe, heat pumps are the first heating and cooling solution. They are a fundamental part of a renewable and intelligent energy system, and are in line with one of our company’s values: Sustainable Innovation.

What is a heat pump?

A heat pump is a device that can provide heating, cooling and hot water to homes, businesses, stores and even industry.
Heat pumps take energy from the air, ground or water and convert it into heat. Conversely, they remove heat energy, such as an air conditioner. This makes them a highly efficient, renewable and sustainable heating and cooling system.

How does a heat pump work?

Types of heat pumps

Aerothermal heat pumps

Aerothermal heat pumps use energy from outside air or air from a ventilation system to heat, cool and heat water. They can be installed entirely inside or outside the house. Or you can have a system with one unit inside the building and one outside.

Water-to-air heat pumps use energy stored in ground, surface, sea or wastewater. The heat pump takes heat from the water and makes it available for heating, cooling and hot water preparation. Water-fed heat pumps are particularly efficient because water is an excellent energy carrier.

Geothermal heat pumps use the energy stored in the ground. They extract heat from the ground by means of a vertical or horizontal collector.

Many heat pumps use electricity to drive the compression cycle, that is, to further heat the energy in the air, water or ground. The heat pump can be plugged in and use renewable electricity. It use heat or a motor to drive the compression cycle.
